Duke of Lancaster's Regiment back for homecoming
Published: 8th Oct 2010 14:06:51
About 100 soldiers from the north west of England are returning home from deployment in Afghanistan to be reunited with their families.
The members of 1st Battalion, The Duke of Lancaster's Regiment, have been on a six-month tour of Helmand Province.
Three soldiers were killed in battles with insurgents, including L/Cpl Jordan Bancroft, from Burnley.
Returning soldiers were being greeted by their families at Catterick Garrison in North Yorkshire on Friday afternoon.
Major Paul Blakesley, of the Duke of Lancaster's Regiment, told the BBC the deployment had helped bring extra "stability and security" to the region.
"All tours are tough... I can guarantee they'll be happy to be home today," he said.
