A man has been charged with attempted murder after a woman had her throat slashed in her Stirlingshire home.

Mother-of-two Lisa Whyte, 32, was attacked in her home in the village of Slamannan at about 0930 BST on Saturday.

It is understood she had been due to get married to Steven McKee, 37, on Friday, but the ceremony did not go ahead.

Mr McKee was arrested in Newcastle-Upon-Tyne later on Saturday.

He is expected to appear in court on Monday in connection with the attack.

Miss Whyte was flown to the Southern General hospital in Glasgow after the incident.

A spokesman for Central Scotland Police said: "Following an incident in Slamannan yesterday, police can confirm that a 37-year-old man has now been charged. He is expected to appear at Falkirk Sheriff Court tomorrow.

"A 32-year-old woman who received injuries during the incident remains in a serious condition on hospital."
