Police praise N-Dubz Dumfries crowd
Published: 21st Jul 2010 00:27:36
Police have praised the behaviour of about 9,000 fans who turned out to watch a free concert in Dumfries featuring N-Dubz.
It was part of the two-day Youth Beatz festival being held in the town on Friday and Saturday.
Ch Insp Alan Glendinning of Dumfries and Galloway Constabulary said the event had been a "great success".
He said it was testament to the planning that went into the festival that it had passed "so smoothly".
"The weather was kind and there were very few issues during the course of the night itself," he said.
"There was a clear no alcohol policy and searches were conducted to ensure as far as possible no alcohol was brought into the event."
Dumfries Provost Jack Groom said there was a significant financial benefit to the town in staging such events.
"The event was a great success attracting almost 12,000 people over the two days," he said.
"Events like this have an economic impact for Dumfries town centre and once again the community of Dumfries came out in force to support the biggest event in Nithsdale this year."
