An Aberdeen doctor accused of downloading child pornography has told his trial that he accessed an indecent site because the link contained the name of a former partner.

Douglas Harris, 29, denies taking, permitting to be taken or making indecent images, as well as being in possession of pictures.

He has lodged special defences of incrimination and alibi.

Mr Harris was asked in court why he clicked on a particular link.

He replied: "Because I had gone out with a girl by the name of Evie, or Evelyn, briefly.

"I saw this name, wondered what it was and clicked on it. She was a nurse I knew in Inverness. I had a brief relationship with her."

'One-night stand'

Depute fiscal Neil Shand asked: "What was her surname?"

The doctor replied: "I can't remember. She was a student nurse and nurses don't have their second name on their badges."

Mr Shand suggested that the doctor had "made up" the nurse because he did not know her full name, but he replied: "It was just a fling, a one-night stand basically."

Asked how he felt when he viewed the Evie site, he replied: "Shock, because you see your name and pictures of things and comments with your name that you don't know anything about."

The trial continues.
