A man has been charged after a fight outside a Portsmouth pub which left an 18-year-old with serious head injuries.

The victim, from Trowbridge, Wiltshire, remains in a critical condition after being assaulted in a car park behind Guildhall Walk late on Thursday.

Police said a 21-year-old from Southsea had been charged with two counts of assault, one by beating and one by causing grievous bodily harm (GBH).

He has been bailed to appear before Portsmouth magistrates on 25 May.

The injured man was initially taken to Queen Alexandra Hospital in Cosham before being transferred to the neurological unit at Southampton General Hospital, where he remains.

He was injured outside Yates's bar in Alec Rose Lane at about 2350 BST.

A 22-year-old man from Portsmouth who was also arrested on Sunday has been released without charge.
