Michael Jackson and Aretha Franklin join hall of fame
Published: 1st Apr 2010 10:09:16
Michael Jackson and Aretha Franklin are to be inducted into the hall of fame at the Apollo Theatre in New York.
Franklin, 68, best known for hits including I Knew You Were Waiting (For Me) and Respect, will attend a ceremony at the Harlem theatre on 14 June.
Last July, thousands of Jackson fans remembered the singer at a memorial event at the theatre, where The Jackson Five first performed in 1967.
Past inductees include Smokey Robinson, Quincy Jones and James Brown.
Jackson and his brothers won the Apollo's Amateur Night contest, a feat which is credited with launching their career.
Singer and actress Jennifer Lopez and her husband Marc Anthony, meanwhile, are to be presented with the theatre's arts and humanitarian award.
The Apollo is celebrating its 75th anniversary this year.
