Former television presenter Mike Nesbitt is one of three possible candidates the Ulster Unionist Party is considering for Strangford.

Mr Nesbitt, who is currently one of Northern Ireland's Victims' Commissioners, was interviewed at party headquarters on Tuesday afternoon.

Two other candidates were interviewed - a retired Army officer, Colin Heron, and a former councillor, Philip Smith.

Strangford was held at the last General Election by Iris Robinson of the DUP.

She resigned last December and was the subject of a BBC Spotlight programme last month.

The UUP has linked up with the Conservatives to contest elections as Ulster Conservatives and Unionists.

Both parties will select candidates and the final decision will then be taken by a selection committee.

Mr Nesbitt is a former UTV presenter.
