Garforth murders: Police continue to question man

Police are continuing their investigation after a woman and her eight-year-old daughter were found dead in Leeds.

They have been named locally as Sarah Laycock, 31, and her daughter Abigail.

Their bodies were discovered at a house in Kirkby Avenue, Garforth, on the outskirts of the city.

A four-year-old girl was also found with minor injuries and a 36-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and attempted murder.

The four-year-old was taken to Leeds General Infirmary and discharged after treatment.

Police were first alerted after reports of an assault at a nature reserve about five miles away near Castleford.

A police spokesman said: "Police were called at around 4pm on Saturday afternoon to reports of an assault near the Fairburn Ings Nature Reserve near Castleford.

"Officers attended and, following initial inquiries, a house search was subsequently conducted at an address in Kirkby Avenue in Garforth in Leeds.

"A 31-year-old woman and an eight-year-old girl were found deceased in the property.

"A four-year-old girl was also found with minor injuries."

Kirkby Avenue remained sealed off on Sunday evening as police continued to search the property.

Officers could be seen standing outside the dormer bungalow and a large police van was parked at the front.

Officers wearing protective white suits could be seen at the side and rear of the property.
