Man, 47, hit by car in Newmains seriously injured

A man is in a serious condition in hospital after being hit by a car in North Lanarkshire.
The 47-year-old was crossing the A73 Westwood Road, in Newmains, when he was hit by a Silver Renault Clio at about 17:15 on Friday.
The man was initially taken to Wishaw General and later transferred to the Southern General, where his condition was described as "very serious".
Strathclyde Police have appealed for witnesses to the crash to come forward.
