Man hit by van on M1 dies
Published: 19th Nov 2011 12:43:14

A man has been killed following a collision with a van on the M1 northbound, Junctions 25 and 26 of which are now closed until further notice.
According to Nottinghamshire Police, the scene of the accident is about a mile south of the motorway services at Trowel.
Prior to the moment when the man was hit by the Ford Iveco van, authorities received calls from motorists reporting a male pedestrian on the hard shoulder of the road.
It appears he was then struck and taken to Queen's Medical Centre but died from his injuries.
The driver of the van is aged 56 and although did not sustain any injuries is said to be shaken.
Diversions have been implemented while the two junctions are shut and the police are asking for any witnesses to call its Crash Investigation Unit on 101, using the extension 800 2225.
News of the tragedy follows a multi-vehicle accident two weeks ago on the M5 in Somerset. More than 30 cars, vans and lorries were involved and seven people were killed.
