Police in Perth are looking for three men who attacked a man in a town centre alleyway.

After the assault the 33-year-old victim was taken to hospital with injuries to his back and head.

Detectives from Tayside Police said they did not believe the attack was a "random incident".

The men started the assault in an alleyway between High Street and Scott Street at about 16:00 on Monday, before continuing in Scot Street car park.

The victim eventually fell to the ground near the Primark shop. He was taken to Ninewells Hospital, but was discharged on Tuesday morning.

A Tayside Police spokesman said: "The investigation continues today and, to this end, officers are conducting inquiries in the local area and carrying out a review of public and private CCTV. We have also taken advantage of all forensic opportunities.

"This type of incident rightly concerns us all but we are following certain lines of inquiry and officers are working on the theory that this was not a random attack."

The force has appealed for witnesses to come forward.
