Bath man, 19, critical after attack in Cardiff Bay
Published: 6th Nov 2011 18:39:51
A 19-year-old man from Bath is in a critical condition in hospital after he was assaulted in Cardiff Bay.
Police said the man was attacked and his property stolen in the Tyndall Street area of Cardiff Bay at about 00:45 GMT after he was first approached by an unknown man who began walking with him.
A detective inspector called it "appalling".
He appealed for witnesses to come forward to help trace the attacker.
The man started walking with him the victim in the Bute Terrace area.
Det Insp Shane Ahmed said a full investigation was under way.
"Although the assault happened during the early hours of the morning there may have been a number of people out on their way to or from Cardiff city centre and we're appealing for anyone with information to come forward," he said.
Dark-coloured motif
"Our thoughts are with the family of the victim, who are being supported by a trained family liaison officer at this difficult time."
Police said the man wanted in connection with the incident was of mixed race.
He was wearing a white-striped polo t-shirt with a dark-coloured motif on the left breast, jeans and white trainers.
Mr Ahmed added: "I'm urging anyone who may have witnessed the pair walking or anyone who spoke to someone matching the description of this man in the nearby area to contact police immediately."
Anyone with information is asked to contact Cardiff Central CID on 02920 527420, or 101, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
