Armed gang rob east Belfast club and assault staff
Published: 31st Oct 2011 12:39:39
A gang of armed and masked men have robbed a recreation club on the Holywood Road in east Belfast.
Up to five men armed with hammers, a crow-bar and what is believed to have been a gun, entered the Shorts sports and recreation club at 23:00 BST on Sunday.
Two staff were assaulted during the raid, but their injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.
Police are appealing for information about the incident.
During the robbery, the gang told staff to take off their shoes and belts, and used the belts to tie them up.
They took a sum of money and made off in a blue Jaguar car belonging to a member of staff.
It was found abandoned on the Whincroft Road in east Belfast early on Monday morning.
