Heavy rain brings Wales flood alerts, travel disruption

Strong winds and heavy rain are causing disruption in parts of Wales.

The Environment Agency Wales (EAW) has one flood warning in place in the Conwy Valley and five alerts elsewhere in north and mid Wales on Tuesday.

Fallen trees are affecting roads, including the A4067 at Morriston, Swansea, and the A40 Brecon Road at Abergavenny, Monmouthshire.

No flooding incidents have been reported overnight by any of Wales' fire and rescue services.

But surface water made driving condition hazardous on roads such as between the M4 Coryton interchange at junction 32 and the A470 at Abercynon, Rhondda Cynon Taf, according to the Welsh Government's Traffic Wales website.

The EAW website reports five alerts suggesting flooding is possible on a number of Welsh rivers, including the Dyfi, from Dinas Mawddwy and Llanbrynmair to the estuary in Machynlleth, Powys, and the Dysynni from Tywyn to Minffordd in Gwynedd.

Also affected is the river Dwyryd, from Dyffryn Ardudwy to Nant Gwynant in Gwynedd and the river Conwy from Dolwyddelan to Conwy.

BBC Wales weather forecaster Sue Charles said 55mm (2in) of rain fell on Capel Curig in Snowdonia in 24 hours.

Conditions are forecast to ease later in the morning.
