Two kayakers were rescued after suffering injuries off the Conwy coast.

They were among a group of 12 who paddled into rough water around Great Orme, near Llandudno.

One kayaker was thrown into the sea and a second hurt his back trying to help.

Two lifeboats were called out to reach the group from Cheshire on Sunday morning. The injured men were treated on board one of the lifeboats while the remaining 10 were escorted back.

The RNLI said the mixed group, from the Chester, Ellesmere Port and Wirral area, was well-equipped.

They had been paddling around the Great Orme headland when they ran into an area of rough water to the east of the clifftop lighthouse.

One canoeist was thrown into the sea, slightly injuring himself. A second suffered a back injury after going to his aid.

The group then called Holyhead Coastguard for help.

The remaining 10 craft were able to make their own way to Llandudno's north shore under escorted by the resort's inshore lifeboat.
