Police in Edinburgh are appealing for witnesses after a 13-year-old girl was attacked at knifepoint by a man in the Clermiston area of the city.

Officers said he confronted the teenager and pushed her to the ground at the corner of Ransome Gardens and Rannoch Terrace shortly before 2100 BST on Tuesday.

The girl managed to struggle free and ran off, shaken but uninjured.

Police have described the man as white, in his 20s and 6ft tall.

He was wearing a black hoodie and spoke with a Scottish accent.

A police spokesperson said: "Fortunately the young girl was not injured in this incident, but she has been left understandably shaken as a result of this.

"We are appealing for anyone who may have been in the area at the time, and who saw what happened, to contact police.

"In addition, we would be keen to hear from anyone who may recognise the description of the suspect."
