Harewood accident: two women killed

Two women have died and a third is critically ill in hospital after their car was in collision with a lorry near Leeds, police have said.

The accident happened at the junction of Arthington Lane and Weardley Lane near Harewood on Wednesday evening.

The car driver and her front seat passenger both died at the scene.

An 84-year-old woman, who was in the back of the car, was in a critical but stable condition at Leeds General Infirmary, West Yorkshire Police said.

The road was closed for about six hours as police examined the crash scene.
