Royals met with angry protests in Quebec
Published: 3rd Jul 2011 13:05:07

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge Prince William and Kate Middleton were faced with angry organised protests on their arrival in Quebec for the latest stage of their tour of Canada.
Approximately 100 demonstrators met the royal couple yesterday (July 2nd) as they headed to Montreal's Sainte-Justine University hospital, complaining that the Canadian government is having to foot the bill, believed by the Guardian to be worth in the region of £950,000, for the visit.
One of the protesters, Guillaume Martin, told reporters why he was angry with the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge: "We think the monarchy is something from the middle ages, we don't want to pay for their trip. We are here to tell William we will be waiting for them in Quebec City tomorrow."
According to the Guardian, more demonstrations are expected as they move on to Quebec City, the centre of the French separatist movement.
However, during the first two days of the royal tour in Ottawa - the country's capital - hundreds of thousands of well-wishers gathered at Parliament Hill during the Canada Day festivities to offer their support to the couple.
