Published: 23rd Jun 2011 12:54:01
A man convicted of killing a radio DJ during a burglary at his home has absconded from an open prison in Derbyshire.
Brett Frewin was one of four teenagers jailed in 2004 for the manslaughter of Heart FM presenter Tushar Makwana, from Castle Bromwich in Birmingham.
Mr Makwana was knocked to the ground suffering head injuries while trying to stop their getaway car.
Frewin, 24, formerly of Castle Vale in Birmingham, absconded from HMP Sudbury.
He was sentenced to 10 years in custody at Leicester Crown Court after being found guilty of the killing.
His trial heard that he and his four accomplices tried to kick in the front door of Mr Makwana's home to steal the keys to his BMW.
After being confronted, they fled in a Citroen car, but as the award-winning DJ tried to stop them, he fell to the ground suffering serious head injuries.
Frewin is described as white, about 5ft 9in (1.7m) tall, of slim build, with short brown hair, brown eyes and a West Midlands accent.
The public are urged not to approach him, but to contact police or Crimestoppers.
