The cost of parking in council-run car parks in Cornwall is set to rise.

Proposals being recommended to Cornwall Council include a 5% increase on charges for all motorists who park for more than 60 minutes.

Currently, parking charges vary across the county's six former district council areas.

Andrew Wallis, from the unitary authority's parking policy advisory panel, said there had to be standard costs for all council car parks.

He said the charges would be "fit for purpose" and the aim was to make them as cheap and fair as possible for everyone.

If approved, the rise is expected to take effect from April.

The district councils were abolished when the new Cornwall Council unitary authority was formed in April last year.
