A car driver has been arrested after a collision involving a taxi which claimed the lives of two men and left another seriously injured.
The taxi driver was confirmed dead at the scene after the incident on Victoria Road in the area of Fenton, Stoke-on-Trent, early on Saturday.
A passenger in the taxi who was taken to hospital died while another was said to be in a critical condition.
A man who was driving a blue Jaguar XK8 was held by Staffordshire Police.
The collision at 0105 BST involved the Jaguar travelling form the direction of Hanley towards Fenton and the grey Skoda Octavia taxi going the other way.
The passenger in the taxi who died was confirmed dead shortly after arriving at the University Hospital of North Staffordshire, the ambulance service said.
The man said to be in a critical condition at the same hospital, who is in his 20s, suffered abdominal injuries and a fractured ankle.
Crews worked with the fire service at the scene to get him out of the taxi by removing the roof, the ambulance service said.
