Pupil impaled on fence spike at Drummond High School

A 14-year-old boy has had his leg pierced by a fence spike at an Edinburgh school.

The boy was trying to scramble over the fence at Drummond Community High School in Bellevue Place when the spike entered his leg behind the knee.

Lothian and Borders Fire and Rescue Service arrived at 0830 BST and took an hour to saw through the fencing.

He was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary with the piece of metal protruding from his leg.
