Boy critically injured in crash in Tameside

An eight-year-old boy is critically ill after he was hit by a car in Tameside.
Greater Manchester Police said the incident took place shortly after 1820 BST on Wednesday in Katherine Street, Ashton-Under-Lyne.
A police spokesman said the boy had been knocked down by a Vauxhall Corsa. He is being treated in the Royal Manchester Children's Hospital.
Officers have appealed for witnesses to the incident to contact them.
