A young woman has been raped in Brighton by a man who had offered to help her find her lost mobile phone.

The 19-year-old was attacked in a narrow lane in the city on Wednesday at about 0330 BST.

Police said the victim had met the man in a fish and chip shop in the city's Kings Road.

The attacker is described as being in his late 20s or early 30s and of Mediterranean appearance with stubble. He was wearing Timberland shoes.

He is said to be about 5ft 11in (1.8m) tall, of proportionate build, with dark brown hair and spoke with a local accent. The man was wearing dark jeans and a light coloured top.

Police are searching for a taxi driver who picked the victim and attacker up in a silver Ford Mondeo after the attack, between 0330 and 0400 BST.

Anyone who remembers seeing the man in the chip shop is also urged to contact police.
