Residents have been moved from a care home in Bolton after it was temporarily shut over safety concerns.

Bolton Council and NHS Bolton said a "serious electrical problem" had been found at the 26-bed Ladymead Care Home.

The council, the NHS and the Care Quality Commission (CQC) are currently working to ensure the home's owner, "addresses the issues of concern".

Residents have been moved to alternative accommodation until the building is made safe.

A joint statement by Bolton Council and NHS Bolton said: "A serious electrical problem has been identified at Ladymead Care Home and as commissioners of 21 beds at the home, the duty of care rests with the council and NHS Bolton.

"As a result, we made the decision to undertake a temporary move of all residents as a precautionary measure until this problem is resolved."

The CQC said it visited the home on 4 January in response to issues raised by the local authority and "found that national standards were not being met".

Ladymead describes itself a small family-run residential and nursing home with 26 beds specialising in the care of the elderly.
