Rush-hour Tube passengers were forced to evacuate trains after a power failure stalled them in tunnels.

Jubilee Line commuters were trapped in hot conditions and had to walk along tracks to safety.

The whole line was shut shortly after 1900 BST, with only the short section between Stanmore and Neasden reopening an hour later.

Transport for London (TfL) said four trains were stalled and that the rest of line would open as soon as possible.

Passengers on one train that had been heading north from Swiss Cottage were eventually led through the tunnel to Finchley Road - which has a platform above ground.

They had been trapped on the fully-loaded train for more than an hour and were evacuated in groups of 10.

A TfL spokesman said: "There was a power failure towards the eastern end of the line.

"As a precaution, the line was closed, due to the high traffic, it being peak time."
