A search is under way after a teenage boy jumped from a ferry into a river.

Jordan Cobb, 16, from Plymouth, was spotted jumping from the Torpoint ferry into the River Tamar at 21:15 BST on Monday, Devon and Cornwall Police said.

The coastguard, police and the RNLI conducted an extensive search for him, Ch Insp Ian Drummond Smith said.

He said the police were treating the teenager as a "high risk" missing person and working with the coastguard to try to locate him.

Ch Insp Drummond Smith said: "The river was extensively searched by air and sea for several hours, but there remains a possibility that he managed to swim ashore, and I would ask anyone with information to call the police on 101."

Dartmoor Rescue Team is on stand by to join the search which will start again in daylight.
