Porn 'planted on Isles of Scilly head's computer'
Published: 19th Sep 2012 18:36:07
The wife of a head teacher suspended from the Isles of Scilly's school claims pornographic images were planted on his computer.
An interim report into alleged financial irregularities at Five Islands School said deleted images had been found on Bryce Wilby's computer.
Mr Wilby's wife Maria said there had been a deliberate attempt to discredit her husband.
The Isles of Scilly Council said her claims would be investigated.
Mr Wilby, 46, was suspended in May after allegations of financial irregularities were raised by whistleblowers.
He has denied any wrongdoing and Mrs Wilby said she was convinced of his innocence.
An independent investigation was launched by an audit team from Cornwall Council after Mr Wilby was suspended.
Its interim report made it clear the pornographic images were not illegal and did not relate to children.
I think it's a deliberate attempt to discredit Bryce ”
The auditors have finished their final report and it will be discussed by the full council later this month.
Mrs Wilby would not specify who may have planted the images.
"I don't want to implicate anybody else, but I've got a very good idea where they've come from and it's not my husband," she said.
"When you consider that the original allegations he was suspended for were all of a financial nature... doesn't it make you wonder where these additional allegations suddenly came from and why in the last four weeks of his working life on Scilly, Bryce suddenly developed a penchent for inappropriate images."
She said her husband was a good man and she believed there was a campaign against him which was "more than a witch hunt".
She said: "I think it's a deliberate attempt to discredit Bryce because he was actually investigating things that [the council] would rather leave unheard."
Mr Wilby has been advised by his union not to comment.
A council spokesperson said Mrs Wilby's claims were being investigated and the council would respond at a later date.
