Nottingham rugby player Mitchell Todd dies in car crash
Published: 16th Aug 2012 19:39:07
Nottingham rugby player Mitchell Todd has died in a car crash in Nottinghamshire, his club has confirmed.
The 21-year-old, from Coventry, was found inside a Citroen C3, at Cotgrave Road, near Normanton-on-the-Wolds, shortly before 06:00 BST on Wednesday.
The second row, a product of the Nottingham Academy, also played for Scotland Under-20s last season.
Nottingham RFC described him as "an exceptional talent".
Todd spent loan spells with Leicester Lions and Birmingham Solihull as well as completing a degree in sports therapy at Coventry University.
He appeared for Nottingham RFC in last season's British and Irish Cup and had signed a new contract with the club in May.
In a statement, the club said: "He was an exceptional talent and a highly valued member of the squad, and he will be missed by all those that knew him.
"Our thoughts are with Mitchell's family and friends at this difficult time."
The club has cancelled its match against Loughborough Students on Saturday.
Nottinghamshire Police has appealed for witnesses to the crash.
