Clayton gun and grenade murder: Man arrested
Published: 12th Aug 2012 15:11:12
A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder, after a man was killed in a gun and grenade attack in Greater Manchester.
David Short, 46, was found dead in Folkestone Road East, Clayton, on Friday after shots were heard.
A 37-year-old was arrested late on Saturday in the Salford area and is currently being questioned by officers.
Police said their main priority remains to speak to Dale Cregan from Droylsden in connection with the murder.
A post-mortem examination concluded Mr Short died from multiple gunshot wounds and an explosion injury.
His son Mark was killed in a shooting at the Cotton Tree pub, in Droylsden, on 25 May.
Detectives want to talk to Mr Cregan, who has one eye but sometimes wears a black false eye, in connection with Mark Short's death.
Police have warned people not to approach Mr Cregan, 29, but to contact officers if they see him.
A grenade exploded during the incident at a property in Folkestone Road East, police said.
Ten minutes later, gunshots were heard and a grenade attack took place two miles away at a house in Luke Road, Droylsden.
Armed police patrols have been taking place in Clayton and Droylsden since the attacks on Friday.
Assistant Chief Constable Garry Shewan, from Greater Manchester Police, said: "Since Friday, we have dedicated a significant amount of officers to not only identify those involved in the violent attacks which have left one man dead, but also to carry out intensive patrols in the area to reassure people living there.
"We have made significant advances in the police investigation over the past couple of days, and a man was arrested last night in the Salford area."
"Our main priority continues to be finding Dale Cregan, so we can arrest him and speak to him about these incidents."
Mark Short, 23, died when a masked gunman opened fire at the pub on Market Street.
Two men were charged with his murder on Wednesday and will appear at Manchester Crown Court on 25 October.
Luke Livesey, 27, from Hattersley, and Damien Gorman, 38, from Glossop, are also charged with three counts of attempted murder.
A 31-year-old man was arrested at Wythenshawe Hospital on Wednesday in connection with the murder of Mark Short.
