Actress Kym Marsh has accepted a caution for fly-tipping and agreed to pay clean-up costs, a Greater Manchester council has confirmed.

A spokesman for the 36-year-old said a person was paid "in good faith" to remove some rubbish, but Ms Marsh did not ask to see a licence.

The Coronation Street star was said to be "horrified" to discover the rubbish had then been illegally dumped.

Ms Marsh did not attend the hearing at Manchester City Magistrates' Court.

A Salford City Council spokeswoman said the matter has now been resolved.

She said: "The council has reviewed this case following the receipt of detailed representations which have been made by the defendant.

"After careful consideration of the facts, it is believed that it would not be in the public interest to continue with a prosecution."

She added: "Ms Marsh has admitted her guilt to this charge by accepting a simple caution and has demonstrated her regret by paying all costs incurred by the council both in terms of the clean up and carrying out the investigation."

A Coronation Street spokesman said: "Kym's relieved the prosecution has been withdrawn and she's now able to draw a line under this matter."
