Prisoner found hanging in Preston Prison cell
Published: 7th Aug 2012 15:56:22
A man jailed for intimidating and assaulting his mother and wife has been found hanging in his cell at Preston Prison.
Prison staff attempted to revive Amjad Younis, 33, of Blackburn, but he was declared dead at 11:15 BST.
He was jailed for two years last month for threatening his family on the day he was released from a 12-week jail sentence for assaulting them.
The Prison Service said an independent inquiry will be held into his death.
Preston Crown Court had heard that after being released from jail on April 2, Younis called his mother and said: "I'm coming to the house to sort you lot out, for getting me sent to prison."
He then went round to their Blackburn home and started climbing through a dining room window.
A Prison Service spokesman said: "As with all deaths in custody, this death will be the subject of an investigation by the independent prison and probation ombudsman."
It is understood Younis was subject to suicide prevention measures.
