'Vicious' attack on elderly man in car
Published: 6th Aug 2012 15:02:11
An 80-year-old man was kicked and punched in the face as he sat in his car in Greater Manchester.
The man was in the blue Vauxhall Astra at the junction of Kings Road and Upper Chorlton Road in Old Trafford when a man opened the door and attacked him.
He walked off and the elderly man was taken to hospital for treatment.
Police have released CCTV images of a man suspected to be involved in the attack, which took place just before 11:00 BST on Sunday 29 July.
The man behind the attack is described as African-Caribbean with short black hair. He is believed to be in his late 20s, of medium to heavy build and was wearing a brown or grey hoody.
Det Insp Debbie Oakes from Stretford CID said: "This was a vicious and completely unprovoked attack on an elderly man who needed hospital treatment for his injuries.
"We have released CCTV footage of a man we would like to speak to in connection with this attack and I would encourage anyone who thinks they may recognise this person to contact officers at Stretford CID.
"On the day this attack happened, Egypt were playing New Zealand in the Olympics at Old Trafford football ground, which may help to jog people's memories and help them to remember what they were doing.
"We do not believe the attack was in any way related to the football.
"We are determined to identify the individual responsible and ensure he is made to pay for his what he has done."
