London 2012: Women's cycling draws crowds despite rain
Published: 29th Jul 2012 15:16:47
Thousands of spectators have turned out in Surrey to watch the women's Olympic cycling road race, despite wet weather.
Roads have been closed for the 140km race, which includes two laps of Box Hill and follows the same route as the men's race on Saturday.
There have been a number of crashes in the wet conditions and marshals warned cyclists to slow down on descents.
BBC Surrey's Lucy Ambache said about 500 people had had picnics in Leatherhead before watching the race.
Colombian Rigoberto Uran Uran, who won silver in the men's race, praised the crowds along the route on Saturday.
Mr Uran Uran said: "There was no danger at all - if anything they encouraged us as they were cheering us on the whole time."
Surrey Police said one person was arrested in Leatherhead for a breach of the peace during Saturday's event.
