Litter picker injured in Lavernock Point fall

An 86-year-old man has been airlifted to hospital with head injuries after falling down some steps while litter picking.

The pensioner fell at Lavernock Point, near Penarth, in the Vale of Glamorgan, at about 10:00 BST on Saturday.

He was airlifted to hospital in Cardiff by an RAF search and rescue helicopter from Chivenor in Devon. His condition is unknown.

Coastguards said teams from Penarth and Barry attended the scene.

A coastguard spokesman said the man had been litter picking when he was injured.

It is not known how many steps he fell down or how serious his injuries are.
