Two men arrested in Francis Farrell murder inquiry
Published: 10th Jul 2012 11:48:15
Two men, aged 22 and 23, have been arrested on suspicion of murder after a man died in Greater Manchester, police have said.
Francis Farrell, 56, was found with head injuries at about 04:15 BST on 17 June in Frog Lane, Wigan. He died in hospital three days later.
A post-mortem examination concluded the cause of death was a head injury.
A 35-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assault but has now been eliminated from investigations.
Det Ch Insp Joanne Rawlinson said; "Francis was attacked on Sunday 17 June, Fathers' Day, while minding his own business on his way home after enjoying an evening out in Wigan town centre
"Whoever is responsible left him injured, unconscious and lying half in the road on Frog Lane.
"I do not want the public to jump to conclusions now that two men are in custody.
"Despite this development I still want to hear from members of the public and those who have information that will be vital to this investigation.
"We would also like to hear from anyone who was in a vehicle or walking along Frog Lane between 4am and 4.15am."
