A 27-year-old man has been kidnapped and assaulted by a gang of men in south Belfast.

At around midnight on Thursday, four men armed with hammers drove into Knockbreda Park and attacked a man who was sitting in a parked car along with two other men.

They smashed the car window and the victim was dragged out and taken to a house in the Holywood area where he was assaulted.

He was released several hours later.

The victim was treated in hospital for his injuries which are not believed to be life-threatening.

Police said one of the assailants was 18-years-old and about 5 ft 4 in tall, slim with short, fair hair.

He was wearing a navy, hooded track suit with gloves.

The car they were in was said to be an old style, dark VW Passat.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the CID at Musgrave on 0845 600 8000 or use the Crimestoppers number on 0800 555 111.
