A 58-year-old man was critically injured when the hired sports car he was driving overturned in an airfield.

Greater Manchester Police believes the driver lost control of the Lamborghini Spyder at around 11:00 BST at the airfield on Chester Road, Stockport.

A police spokesman said officers found the car upside down in the garden of a nearby house.

The driver's 21-year-old son, a passenger in the car, suffered minor bruising in the crash.

He was taken to hospital but has since been discharged.

Sgt Danny Byrne, from the force's serious collision investigation unit, said: "We believe the vehicle was being driven at a high speed and it is likely the driver may have lost control.

"Members of the family are being comforted by specially-trained officers at this difficult time."
