Remand prisoner found hanged at Holme House in Stockton
Published: 25th Jun 2012 19:30:25
An investigation is under way after a remand prisoner was found dead at a Teesside jail.
Andrew Wilkes was discovered hanging in his cell at Holme House in Stockton on Saturday.
The 32-year-old was being held on remand at the category B institution, charged with theft.
The Prison Service said that as with all deaths in custody the Prisons and Probation Ombudsman would be carrying out an inquiry.
In 2011 a report by the inspector of prisons described Holme House as a "challenging" prison to run, and the outcomes it delivered for prisoners were a real achievement.
