NatWest, RBS and Ulster Bank getting 'back to normal'
Published: 25th Jun 2012 07:50:48
RBS, which owns NatWest and Ulster Bank, said services should be "largely back to normal" on Monday following computer problems that have affected thousands of customers.
The group is extending branch opening hours for a fifth day on Monday to help clear a backlog of work.
RBS said the computer problem was fixed during the weekend, although tests are continuing.
More than 1,000 NatWest branches will be open from 08:00BST to 19:00BST.
Susan Allen, director of customer services at RBS, said she was "cautiously optimistic that RBS and NatWest customer account balances will be largely back to normal from Monday".
However, customers continued to report problems when making payments via RBS and NatWest online banking services early on Monday.
RBS confirmed that some customer accounts were still reporting problems due to account balances which had not been updated.
Some have experienced missing salary and wage payments, while others have been unable to pay their rent or mortgage repayments.
"We will automatically waive any overdraft fees or charges on current accounts," said Ms Allen. "This will be processed over the next few days," she added.
RBS has also promised to work directly with credit agencies to ensure no one has their credit score affected.
"For all other issues, customers have our commitment that they will not be out of pocket from this issue. We will publish further details on how we will ensure this later in the week," said Ms Allen.
