A 56-year-old man found unconscious in a street in Greater Manchester after a night out has died.

Francis Farrell was found with serious head injuries at about 04:15 BST on Sunday in Frog Lane, Wigan. He died in hospital on Wednesday.

He was seen leaving the Wiend Bar in the town centre at about 03:50 and then captured on CCTV walking down Frog Lane a few minutes later.

A 35-year-old man arrested on suspicion of assault has been released on bail.

He has been bailed until 19 July pending further inquires.

A post-mortem examination to find out the exact cause of death will take place on Friday.

Det Ch Insp Howard Millington said: "Because of the injuries Francis has sustained we are treating this as suspicious. We are appealing to anyone who saw him in the early hours of the morning on Sunday to get in contact."

He appealed for anyone who saw Mr Farrell leave the Wiend bar or in Frog Lane to get in touch with police.
