Around 400 workers at a north Wales power cable factory are to go on strike later over a pay dispute.

The Unite union said the six-hour strike at Prysmian Cables on Wrexham Industrial Estate, would begin at 13:00 BST. Night shift workers will strike at 01:00 on Thursday.

The union said it had been negotiating with the company since February but had been unable to reach an agreement.

The Prysmian Group has been asked to comment.

"It's an ongoing pay dispute," said Unite regional officer Tony Brady.

"Negotiations started in February/March but the company has not met the expectation of the membership.

"We balloted for industrial action and the membership voted 94.7% in favour."

Further industrial action, along the same lines, would be held on Monday, said Mr Brady.

In 2010 Prysmian Cables won a £15m contract to manufacture and install power cables to the Gwynt y Mor windfarm off the north Wales coast.
