Paisley shop worker critical after stabbing

A shop worker in Paisley is in a critical condition in hospital after being stabbed.

Detectives are treating the attack on the 48-year-old as attempted murder, Strathclyde Police said.

The man was working in Sunshine Licensed Grocers in Green Road when he was attacked at about 17:00 on Friday afternoon.

"We are trying to establish a motive for this seemingly unprovoked attack," said Det Ch Insp Duncan Sloan.

"All lines of inquiry will be pursued, including robbery.

"A detailed forensic examination of the premises is ongoing and we will be looking at CCTV in the area.

"I would appeal to anyone who was in the vicinity of Sunshine Licensed Grocers late yesterday afternoon and saw anyone hanging about outside the shop, or behaving in a suspicious manner, to come forward.

"There is no description available of the suspect. However, it is possible that he may have bloodstaining on his clothing."

The injured man, who suffering from a stab wound, was taken by ambulance to the Royal Alexandra Hospital, where his condition was described as critical.
