Stretford brothers fight off armed robbers as mother raises alarm

Two brothers fought off a pair of suspected armed robbers who confronted their 58-year-old mother in her Greater Manchester home, said police.

Greater Manchester Police said the woman was confronted in her home in Stretford by two men armed with crowbars at about 02:00 BST.

One intruder is alleged to have said "get the gun" when the woman shouted for her sons, aged 32 and 29.

She escaped and called police while her sons managed to detain one of the men.

Police said they recovered a loaded firearm near the scene.

The brothers were treated at hospital for minor injuries sustained in the struggle.

Two men have been arrested in connection with the incident. A 27-year-old was arrested on suspicion of aggravated burglary and possession of a firearm and a 30-year-old on suspicion of aggravated burglary.
