Warrington gas fitter in court over Salford explosion
Published: 15th Jun 2012 15:14:37
A gas fitter has appeared in court charged over an explosion that destroyed three homes and damaged more than 200 others in Salford.
Paul Kay, 29, of Slater Street, Warrington, appeared at Trafford Magistrates' Court accused of offences under the Gas Safety Act.
Marie Burns, 75, was one of 16 people injured in the blast at her home in Merlin Road, Irlam, in November 2010.
Mr Kay was bailed and is due to appear at the same court in July.
He is charged with failing to ensure a gas fitting was properly supported and protected at Mrs Burns' home.
The house was blown apart and several others had to be demolished after the blast because of structural damage.
Mrs Burns suffered 30% burns in the explosion.
Mr Kay was prosecuted after an investigation was carried out by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE).
The investigation will not see any other person or company charged.
