Poles apart: How GAA celebrated with soccer's unlikely dance craze
Published: 14th Jun 2012 12:44:48
All-Ireland GAA football club champions Crossmaglen Rangers have been honoured in Stormont - and they celebrated by turning their backs and jumping up and down!
In other words, the Gaelic footballers made their euphoric feelings known by doing a Manchester City-style Poznan!
The south Armagh club brought the Andy Merrigan Cup to the seat of Northern Ireland politics on Wednesday evening during a reception for their achievements at Croke Park on St Patrick's Day.
The squad were posing for a photograph on the steps in the main hall when they broken into the latest football dance craze.
"The Poznan" usually involves fans turning to face away from the pitch, linking arms or waving scarves and bouncing up and down.
Manchester City fans first began doing the dance following their Europa League group encounter with Polish side Lech Poznan, whose fans are famous for the backs-to-the-pitch celebration.
So even though it is more at home on the soccer stands than in Gaelic football, the Crossmaglen lads seemed to enjoy themselves.
Player Jamie Clarke posted a link to the video on his Twitter page, saying: "Great evening's entertainment at Stormont in recognition of all-Ireland success. Really enjoyed the tour and doing the Poznan."
Crossmaglen were among a number of Ulster clubs to be honoured, with the likes of Loughgiel, Eoghan Rua, Sperrin Óg, Lisnaskea also recognised for their achievements.
