Small Heath mosque attack: Boy, 15, charged with murder

A 15-year-old boy has been charged with murder after a man who was attacked outside a Birmingham mosque died.

West Midlands Police said the boy previously appeared at the city's youth court charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

The 21-year-old victim died on 5 June from serious head injuries following the attack near the Noor-Ul-Uloom mosque in Small Heath on 1 June.

The boy will appear at Birmingham Crown Court on Friday.

Police said the victim had suffered a serious head injury in the attack, which happened at the junction of Somerville Road and St Oswald's Road at about 14:30 BST.

He was taken to hospital where he was put on a life-support machine. He was confirmed dead at 15:00 BST on 5 June.

A post-mortem examination revealed he died of blunt force trauma injuries.

Two men arrested in connection with the incident, aged 42 and 20 and from Small Heath, have been bailed.

Police are still appealing for witnesses to the incident.
