Titanic replica launches Love L8 campaign in Liverpool
Published: 12th Jun 2012 19:32:56
An 11ft (3.4m) mosaic replica of the Titanic has been unveiled to launch a programme of redevelopment in an area of Liverpool.
The Love L8 campaign involves work on green spaces and buildings on the Flatiron site in Park Road.
Other improvements include sculptures, artworks and the creation of a multi-use play centre.
Lead artist Alan Murray said making the to-scale replica had been "very challenging and exciting".
"We chose the theme of the Titanic to commemorate the connection of Liverpool and its people to this tragic event in maritime history," he said.
"Everybody has an opinion and emotion about the sinking of the Titanic and the stories connected to it, so we decided to mark the 100 years anniversary with artwork of maritime significance."
