David Doherty, son of My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding star, admits driving death charge
Published: 12th Jun 2012 18:09:30
The 27-year-old son of My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding star Paddy Doherty has admitted causing death by careless driving.
David Doherty, of Queensferry, Flintshire, was charged after James Loveridge, 38, of Elton, Cheshire, died in an early morning crash on the A55 near Bangor, Gwynedd.
Prosecutors agreed to drop a charge of causing death by dangerous driving.
Judge Niclas Parry at Mold Crown Court remanded David Doherty in custody to be sentenced, possibly on Friday.
Mr Loveridge died in the two-vehicle accident on the westbound carriageway of the A55 at Abergwyngregyn, near Talybont, between 03:30 and 04:00 GMT on 18 March.
He was a front seat passenger in a Mitsubishi Shogun driven by Doherty which veered into a lay-by close to a junction and struck a parked Renault van.
Three other people were injured, including Doherty and the driver of the van.
Doherty also admitted that he was driving while disqualified, without insurance, that he failed to stop and failed to report the accident.
He pleaded guilty to then taking a Land Rover Discovery without consent and driving that without insurance.
Doherty also pleaded guilty to an earlier incident of dangerous driving in Manchester in May 2011.
He admitted dangerous driving in various streets in Manchester including Bolton Street, driving while disqualified, with no driving licence, no insurance and failing to stop after an accident.
Prosecuting barrister Andrew Green said that anxious consideration had been given to the case and it had been decided to accept the pleas.
Beyond drifting into the lay-by, Mr Green said there were no other factors in the fatal crash such as excessive speed or alcohol which could be put forward.
Judge Parry said Doherty had the good sense to plead guilty and he would be given credit in sentencing.
But the judge warned that they were very serious matters.
