M40 minibus crash man in dangerous driving arrest
Published: 11th Jun 2012 12:58:09
A man from Oldham in Greater Manchester has been arrested after the minibus he was driving overturned on the M40.
Sixteen people were injured in Saturday afternoon's accident on the southbound carriageway, between junctions 11 and 12, near the Oxfordshire-Warwickshire border.
The 33-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence.
He has been bailed until 30 June.
Thames Valley Police said the injuries were as a result of a "single-vehicle collision" and ranged from minor to serious, but were not life-threatening.
West Midlands Ambulance Service and South Central Ambulance Service said the vehicle was on its side when they arrived but all 16 occupants had managed to get out.
"Fortunately, no-one had life-threatening injuries but all required treatment by crews," an ambulance service spokesperson said.
"The most severely injured were two men. One suffered a fractured arm, the other had back pain and both sustained deep lacerations to their arms."
Both men were taken to Oxford's John Radcliffe Hospital.
A man with pelvic, abdominal and back pain and another man with a possible chest injury were also taken to John Radcliffe Hospital.
Seven other patients, all complaining of back or shoulder pain, were transported to various hospitals.
A further five patients, who suffered minor injuries, were taken to Warwick Hospital as a precaution.
